How will Estonia’s climate change in the coming decades? How much will temperatures rise, how will precipitation, snow cover, and extreme weather conditions change, and what regional differences might emerge across Estonia?
Within the framework of the LIFE-SIP AdaptEST project, the University of Tartu Centre for Climate Research is preparing a
In the fact sheets, we explain the main changes in Estonia’s climate and what climate projections indicate under various future scenarios. We also highlight which changes have higher scientific certainty and which involve greater uncertainty.
The first fact sheets in the series provide an overview of the main changes in Estonia’s climate and temperature variations. Subsequent sheets will cover the global context of climate change and changes in precipitation, compare Estonia’s climate with the Baltic Sea region, and examine future trends in wind and cloudiness.
Separate fact sheets also help explain the methodology used to compile climate projections, the decline in snow cover, changes in extreme weather events, and the regional characteristics of climate change in Estonia. The series concludes with fact sheets on how to use the projections and an overview of what Estonia’s weather might look like at the end of the century.
In total, fact sheets will be produced on the following topics: key messages on Estonia’s climate, temperature, the global picture, precipitation, Estonia’s climate compared with the Baltic Sea region, wind and cloud cover, methodology, the decline in snow cover, extremes, regional characteristics of climate change in Estonia, using the projections, and Estonia’s weather in 2100.
The fact sheets are based on Estonian atmospheric climate projections developed within the LIFE-SIP AdaptEST project. A more comprehensive overview of the projections will be published as a separate report.
Fact sheets will be published gradually from September 2026 to February 2027.
